Welcome to Uniting for Change - Please join us!
By Rev. Alistair Macrae
President, Uniting Church in Australia
Uniting for Change is designed to help you to engage in grassroots advocacy about issues that are important to you.
Uniting for Change is something the Uniting Church in Australia knows something about.
There is a reason we are not the “United” Church in Australia — because we recognise the work of justice and reconciliation “which is the end in view for the whole creation”* will always be a work in progress.
Nevertheless, with the Spirit’s help, and in community with other Christians and people of good will, we act and pray to “be the change we want to see in the world”.
John Wesley spoke of God’s call to “personal holiness” and to “social holiness” and how the two are indivisible.
Jesus’ “Great Commandment” to love God and to love our neighbour describes his account of the essence of the Christian life. And in any decent Christian theology love of neighbour includes the pursuit of justice and peace in God’s world.
I’m excited about the role of Uniting for Change in helping to create opportunities to participate in that vision. Information will be available about particular issues, why we are involved, what our vision for change is and how you can be part of that process.
The aim is to provide a channel to put your thoughts, values and faith into action. I look forward to seeing the changes that collective action will make possible.
Grace and peace,
The Rev. Alistair Macrae
